SOUTHERN BELLE SPEED SERIES
2018/2019 SEASON
This series for 4 year old and older mares will continue in
the current season and will be known as the Southern Belle Speed Series.
The series will consist of four heats and a final as follows:-
Minimum Stakes
November 18 Wyndham Mile Mobile $10,000
December 31 Winton Mile Mobile $10,000
January 10 Northern Southland 1700m Mobile $10,000
March 23 Wairio Mile Mobile $10,000
Final April 13 Winton Mile Mobile $20,000
The conditions of the series are as follows:-
i) Open to all 4 year old and older mares with winning stakes up to and including
$30,000 for lifetime as at date of nomination closing time for the first heat.
ii) The heats and the final will be Preferential Barrier Draw based on winning stakes
using the Track Grid.
iii) To be eligible to start in the final any mare must have started in a heat of the series.
iv) Where a mare is nominated for a heat and this heat is cancelled the mare will be
eligible for the final at the discretion of the Club’s balloting committee which hosts
the final.
v) The winner of a heat will gain automatic qualification for the final. A horse can win two
heats and then be ineligible to start in any further heats.
vi) Mares will earn points in the heats as follows:
1st – 10 points, 2nd – 6 points, 3rd – 4 points, 4th – 2 points and all other starters earn
1 point.
The highest points scorers in the heats will be selected to start in the final – a maximum
of 13 starters – mares with equal points will be selected at the discretion of the Club
holding the final.
Mares selected to start in the final will not be eligible to start in other races on the day
of the final.
vii) A mare can qualify for the Southland Series but if it starts in the Canterbury Mares
Speed Series Final it will not be eligible to start in the final of the Southern Belle Speed
Series.
