Darling Dora 1984/1985 season.

Editor's note: Darling Dora was Brian's first race day runner and his first win as a trainer. The Country Road mare won at Wyndham March 9th 1985 and was 12/12 in the betting paying $35.45 and $9.50. She beat Scotch Leigh and Masterland. It was to be her only win in twelve starts.

Biggest race you've won?
Caduceus Club of Southland Classic.

Tahakopa in the Catlins.

Best mare trained?
Glendu Princess (7 trotting wins) and Easton Alliance (Australasia's fastest mare 1-49.0).

Editor's note: Easton Alliance won four races for Mark Purdon but was initially trained by Brian. He owned her in all of her New Zealand starts before she was bought by Brian Meale and exported to the USA in November 2005. Glendu Princess won seven races including four at Forbury Park.The Armbro Invasion filly started her career as a three year old running second at Roxburgh before winning at Ascot Park.

So King - still on the improve.

Glendu Princess

Best horse sold?
Easton Alliance, Happy Asset and Easton Swift.

Editor's note: Happy Asset was trained initially by Brian Norman who started him twice for two eights. He was sold to Tim Butt's stable and faced the starter one hundred and four times winning fourteen races and earning $783,453. His biggest win was in the 1999 Auckland Cup which was worth $250,000.

Which race would you most like to win in Southland?
Caduceus Classic again.

Editor's note: Norman won the 2010 Caduceus Classic with Easton Swift driven by Dexter Dunn. After starting in the Harness Jewels at Cambridge she was exported to Australia where she has won another twelve races. The daughter of Washington VC won seven of her first eleven starts in Aussie.

Nevele R Stakes.

Which New Zealand trainer do you admire most?
Mark Purdon but Nathan Williamson is doing well.

What do you consider to be the biggest challenge facing Harness Racing in Southland?
