Editor's note: The Holmes Hanover mare beat Adio Routine by a neck and ran the 1950 metres 2-23.1 - a mile rate of 1-58.0. She was driven by Allan Beck.

Editor's note: Tartan Lady won ten races for Faithful and another three for Cran Dalgety. As well as the Standardbred Breeders Stakes she also won The Southland Oaks Final and the Central Otago  and Gore Cups (in race record time which still stands).

English Elegance won her first two starts as a two year old at Addington. She then ran third in the 2000 Sires Stakes Fillies Championship Final (Group Two) behind Shania Patron and Tiger Turner beaten by half a length and a nose. She was trained at the beginning of her three year old season by Mark Purdon and finished third in the Group Two Ladyship Stakes. She won the Great Northern Oaks in Auckland. She caught a virus during that campaign and never returned to her best form.

He has trained the winners of the Gore Cup (Tartan Lady 1998 in track record time), Wyndham Cup (Feverish in 2000 and Franco Novelle 2003), Central Otago Cup (Preiswert 1996 and Tartan Lady in 1999), Roxburgh Cup (Imperiora 1997 and Brydone 2004) and Winton Cup (Brydone 2004). He has also trained the winners of other major Southland races including the Kindergarten Stakes (Bought In The Pub which deadheaded with Lennon in 2003), Northern Southland Cup (Shickered Again 1992), Riverton Cup (Not A Deal 1999) and Southland Oaks (Tartan Lady 1998).

Which New Zealand race would you be most thrilled to win?
New Zealand Cup. To even have a horse in the Cup would be great and to win it would be something else.

Which New Zealand trainer do you most admire?
Barry Purdon. As a young man growing up I admired the way he turned out his horse and the way they raced. I idolised him and thought he was the best.

What do you consider to be the biggest challenge facing Harness Racing in Southland?
Making ends meet for owners.
